Gweedore trip

Postby Scienceman » Fri May 25, 2007 10:47 pm

just came back from Bunbeg. Great holliday. We went to Dunlewey, the poisoned glen, Glenveagh national park en the surrounding beaches. We saw some good traditional irish music in the pubs. We also went to Leo's tavern and we were lucky because Leo himself was singing that evening.

Some of the songs he sang:
- Whiskey in the jar
- Star of the county down
- The wild rover
- Amazing grace
- The jug of punch
- Fields of Athenry

And a lot more

He even asked me to sing a Dutch song on stage! Which i didn't do by the way because I hardly know any Dutch songs.

I'll show some pics later! :D

(shifted this to leo's- hope that's ok!)
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Dutch songs?!

Postby martijn » Sun May 27, 2007 4:47 pm

Hi,

we are also going to Leo's Tavern as we are staying in Gweedore the first week of July.

We will bring a textbook with Dutchsongs (just in case) and start with 'Tulips from Amsterdam'!

Did you also stay in Gweedore Harm?

I forgot to mention tulips from Amsterdam, he did that one as well!

We stayed at a B&B in Bunbeg, near the beach. lovely location!

Its close to a pub called Hiudai Beags which has a very good traditional music session on monday evening. Another good pub close by is Sean og's. Leo's tavern in Crolly is about 8 miles away and easy to reach by car/taxi. (taxi's are very cheap over there).

"Hiudai Beags?" Yes, I've had a few pints there! Did you stay down by the harbor at Andy and Jean's at the Bunbeg House? Great place to stay and close to the ferry if you're wanting to go out to Tory Island.

Last time I was at Andy and Jean's, Andy had some chums over from the UK. Hope they didn't wreck the place too much...

At last, the time has come!
On Saturday morning we will leave our home towards Ireland. It's our fourth Ireland-trip but our first to the North and we are looking forward to see the beautiful Northern Landscape. Clannad-territory!
We have rent a cottage in Crolly and we surely throw often a glance into Leo's. As some of you have mentioned the food seems to be very delicious and the music -of course- can't be better! Well, we will enjoy it!!! I hope we are lucky and see (and hear) Leo.

Saturday night is the best night to see Leo. Maire was at home last week, in the pub on Sat night presenting the prizes for the Clannad Golf Classic, It is a pity you were not there last week.

Have a wonderful time!

Really a great pity that I have missed Moya, I would have loved to see her. Well, seems as if I have to wait for the concert in Stuttgart. Thanks for the tip Draíocht, Saturday evening sounds good!
