Hi Franszwijnenberg,

If a PM stays in your Outbox, it means it has not been picked up by its recipient yet.

As soon as it has been read, it will move from your Outbox to your Sentbox.

I've currently got 3 PMs in my Outbox pending, sent to non-active members a few months ago. I might well remove them in due course as it's clear that they're not ever going to see them now.

But that's why they're in your Outbox anyway!

Just a question while we're on this topic- not sure if it's been answered before but I'm ignorant to its answer.

Can admins read PMs that are sent between members? i.e. PMs which are not sent to an admin???

I know some forums have that option enabled. Actually I think it is very sad though if it happens. :( PM's are meant to be PRIVATE messages, but then Big Brother is always watching you....

I really hope things like that don't happen here

The answer to that here is no. No Admin can read any other member's private messages, so private messages are exactly that - private.

There may be a phpBB modification to allow this, but I for one would never install such a modification on principle.

For administrators who have database access however (usually the site ownder(s)), it would be possible to connect directly to the database and query the private message table using SQL. However, that would be just as unethical IMHO. There would be no way to prevent this as the private messages table is not different from any other table at the database level.

I think I might be on another forum or two which might have that option, but there was never a reason to use it. I agree that private messages are supposed to be Private, and I am also glad to hear that it can be kept that way
