A quick avatar hotlinking tutorial

Postby Kosma [PL] » Sat May 27, 2006 12:15 pm

For those who might have trouble getting the avatars to work, here's a quick tutorial:

 You need to have the avatar on your computer first.
 Make sure your image is not larger than 100x100px. If it is, scale it down first. PM me if you need help with that.
 Go to some image-hosting site. I recommend Imageshack (because the images don't disappear after some time, as it is with some websites).
 Upload the image. Copy the Direct link to image link to your profile.
 Voila! The avatar is now displaying.

Yep, but Imageshack doesn't require an account - it's more intended for quick and simple storage of single images, whereas Photobucket is better for storing larger amounts of images.

Imageshack is better, although the thing i hate with imageshack is the way you can only log in from an e-mail link??

Yep, it's extremely annoying - I have not found a good solution yet.

You can no longer upload the avatar directly to the forum server, this is due to security issues. If you want to have the avatar, you need to upload it to some other server, like Imageshack.
