Flash Fiction, Anyone?

Postby Jim » Mon Oct 10, 2011 10:00 pm

Does anyone here do Flash Fiction? It's basically a type of short story in which you are limited as to the number of words you can use, typically 100 or less.

Anyone care to jump in and share a story?

Cheers,
Jim

OK, I'll start us out:

The Ski Jump
by Jim Edwards

Eddie stood at the top of the hill, sliding his skis back and forth as he held his position with his poles.

Last winter, he had fashioned a ski jump out of some scrap lumber. There had been plenty of snow, and plenty of jump attempts, but so far he had not been able to land upright after jumping.

The season's first snow had occurred the previous night, leaving the hill and ski jump covered in a coating of light powder. Perfect. He had a good feeling about this.

Facing his skis down the hill, he shoved off with his poles and descended toward the jump. As his skis went over the edge, he sprang with his legs. He was now airborne. The landing zone was directly ahead.

Eddie went face-first into a snowdrift. Shaking off the snow, along with the mild pain of a rough landing, he checked his watch. Five in the afternoon. If he didn't get home shortly, he would be late for supper.

Shouldering his skis, he began the trek home. There would be other opportunities.
