What artist would you recommend

Hi there,

My boyfriend went to Moya's concert with me, but did not particularly like it. He does not like her voice really.
He far more likes the old work of Clannad, especially in which the men have the leading vocals, like for example their songs An tOileán Úr, The Pretty Maid, An Bealach Seo 'Tá Romham, Dheanainn Súgradh, Teidhir Abhaile Riú, An Giobog. And with good reason, I mean I too like these very much.:)

Always looking for new music (or at least new for us, it may very well be very old music), I was wondering is there anything you could recommend that we would both like, so something like Clannad with male leading voices. (yes, plural if possible) ?

And yes, Cormac de Barra has a beautiful voice as well, but he does not sing much does he ? The cd I bought from him there are 2 songs in which he sings and the rest is instrumental. (A very nice instrument !!, but nevertheless no singing there), or is that different on his other cd's?

Thanks for thinking along !

My recommendation would then be Chieftains, at least they are all men! Though, if your friend does tolerate at least one woman in a band, then Altan would be another good choice.

But the singer is also a woman.

Haha, Suvi, it is not about toleration :D a woman with a very low voice would also qualify  He just likes bass-tones I guess.

Thanks, I will check out the bands you recommended.

That's a difficult one, especially as I would say that as female singers go, Moya has quite a low voice - one of the things like like, and I do not tend to go for higher-pitched female voices.

I honestly can't think of much at the moment...but will keep thinking!

There's a new female singer out in the POP category - nothing like Clannad but more like Annie Lennox - named Clare Maguire. I've been listening to it non-stop since I got it and it's amazing.
She's got quite a versatile voice which can go very low. Album's called Light After Dark.

As far as bands with a Clannad sound...that's a hard one. For me moreso as I'm more a fan of female voices anyhow. Hmm...You could try Blackmore's Night - although it has a female vocalist she doesn't have a high-pitched voice and the band's backed by Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow fame. :)

Good luck!
