Sad news for all who love Riverdance!

Postby cantilena91 » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:59 am

Folks, just am so very saddened to read this:

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/showbiz-and-lifestyle/music-in-wales/2009/03/25/the-final-steps-for-riverdance-91466-23221951/

I for one am going to miss this thing, although I never got to see it live. What do you others think about this?

What a pity! :(

I saw it in 2005 and 2008 in the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. I love it !!!

I can't really understand why they stop now.
In Bochum "Starlight Express" plays in an especially adapted theatre since June 1988. And it runs and runs and runs.

I think I'd be right in saying that this is only their last tour IN THE UK!!!! At least, that's how it's been advertised on their site. It's a while since I signed into their forum, but it's still a very active place and I don't think the show is over yet :)

Any of you fancy checking it's www.riverdance.com

Really pity. It would be so great for me to see "Riverdance" live again ONE time! I saw their show in June 2004 and it was great! I've heard that they'll stop - it was mentioned in the "Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel" show on 31st January, when they had a TV performance there. :(

Hmm, it's really peculiar because the tone of the article I gave the link to is completely different, there it clearly can be read from between the lines that it is going to end altogether. It would be very sad to see such an icon project ceasing, it is such a big thing for Ireland and Irishness anyway... :(

Riverdance might stop but it will always live on in people's memory.Millions have seen the show and I believe that it's fair to say that the show is part of Ireland's history. :)

:( :( :(

“But it’s the best way to end – if you are going to finish it’s good to finish on a high. You don’t want to flog a dead horse. I think the show could tour for years and years and never lose its appeal. Audiences love coming back again and again to see it.”

doesn't this statement sound somewhat self-contradictory to you?

Maybe but in my opinion it is NOT like beating a dead horse at all!!! It's more like a Broadway thing for me, something that should never cease to exist even though the troupes, dancers and things change... Too sad if this has something to do with the ongoing financial crisis!

OK guys, Riverdance are currently playing in or selling tickets for 2009 in the following European countries

Austria
France
Germany
Holland
Ireland
UK

And it looks like they're also touring extensively in North America

If you want to see if they're near you, look here:
http://www.riverdance.com/htm/tours_tickets/index.php

Doesn't look to me like they're packing up this year yet!

Grania, thanks for the info. :) EDIT: no chance for me, unfortunately. All locations are too far from me. :(

So, I was planning to go in December, here in Holland, with a friend. We had no troubles paying quite a price for the show, we both thought it was worth it.
However, due to some situations we won't be going to see Riverdance, and now I dont have anyone to go with, so I will never see them for real... :(

They're not finished yet Methica - can't you go yourself?

There's an excuse to go, as if you needed one
