Past/Present VHS

Postby phlegsan » Sun Aug 08, 2010 6:21 pm

Anyone know of plans to make Past/Present into a DVD? I put my VHS in every St. Patrick's Day, and other times during the year when I want to relax and enjoy....I'm afraid my videotape won't last much longer.....

Sadly, I very much doubt it. :( Frightening though the thought may be (well, it is to me, anyway!), PastPresent is the best part of 20 years old now, so I would have thought that if a DVD release was going to happen, it would have already done so!

Never say never, but I can only suggest doing your best to look after the VHS copy that you have!

It would be a big (if not very huge) pity if they don't want to remaster this thing and re-release it as a DVD, as they could easily expand the video collection to contain newer material as well (in case they have made music videos for newer songs)! Or make the PastPresent videos as part of a live DVD maybe? Just wanting to keep harbouring the dream...

I'd love to see this collection get a DVD release, especially if the original master tapes still exist so we can get shiny re-mastered images!

There are definitely enough Clannad and Moya music videos made after 1989 that could expand the collection. After seeing a number of them on Youtube, many of which have been taken down due to copyright issues, I would love to be able to watch them all again, bigger, on my telly from the comfort of my sofa.

Some nice extras could be a selection of rare footage from television appearances over the years, especially if those very, very early appearances that Moya mentioned in her autobiography still exist (I hope the RTÉ archive is more complete than many other TV stations).

I wish that Moya and Clannad would release a collection DVD of all their music videos. That would be awesome. I would totally buy it! I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would.

I think I still have the original tape lying around somewhere, if anyone is interested in getting it ( I can't play it anymore, no videorecorder) please send me a pm

If I'm not mistaken, Dave would know what to do with it so that you could still watch it...

Yes, it is possible to convert from VHS to DVD via your PC - although I have to warn you that it's a slow process (it converts in real time) and the quality doesn't exactly set the world alight. It did the job of converting my PastPresent video quite well, though (and I didn't want to part with it without a fight!) - so my lack of VHS is no longer an issue! :)

I did the conversion on my VHS/DVD combo, the quality is not great ,but at least I have a backup in case the tape decides to call it a day. :)

I converted my Clannad videos a few years back, before the VHS player went in the loft (I refuse to part with the machine just in case I need it again). I connected the VHS player with my parent's DVD recorder and transferred it that way, so if you know anyone with a DVD recorder then that might be an easier way than via a computer.

I still have my collectable VHS videos (Clannad, Enya, Kate Bush) and just can't seem to send them to VHS heaven.

You could get laserdisk and pretend it's a DVD :P
