Yeah, that sounds good. So the request is then: if people want others to offer suggestions, they specify in their post? Do you want to add that to the top post in this thread, Garbo, and the idea about the thread being about enjoying poetry, not analyzing it (unless they specify), so that new people know that without having to read through all those pages to get here? I think that this is probably a good compromise, and while having a separate thread like Phantas suggested sounds nice, it might get confusing for people who don't know which thread they should post their poems in. It seems logical to keep all the poems together, and this thread in thriving already, so it doesn't seem like we need another. Of course, it would be easy to set up of the need did arise. 8)

Oh, and Phantas, I like what you said about how you want your words to inspire people to respond, with suggestions or praises alike. 8)

All righty, it's been updated! :D

Thanks for being such great sports. *hands out cookies to everyone*

Just for fun. :p I met this absolutely gorgeous man (he rides in a Cavalry) and I felt semi-inspired. (grammatical errors are intentional)

oh i'm in love
i'm in love with an old war man
his boots so high
and his pants hang low
low about his ankles
as i kiss him and make him feel so high
he got a cigar hanging out loose about his lips
and it makes him smell mighty fine
and i like to kiss those lips long and slow
cuz i'm in love with him
you see i love my old man
my old war man
come home from the battle just for me

Thanks for the cookie!

I like it, Garbo. It's different from a lot of the other poems you've posted here in its simplicity and casual language, but it's a fun change. I can certainly picture your horseman while reading that, and it has raw emotions woven into that description as well.

I have one I wrote last year that I thought I'd post, but I have to find it on my computer first... I'll get it up later.

Agh Garbo it's gorgeous! You should try singing that to the tune of 'The Parting Glass', it fits so well! Funny and professional in one!

 it works! xD

I wrote this poem randomly, and my friend Róise has recorded it for her first album being released in Ireland in April. I don't really like it, but it was a "thought of the moment" thing. So for all us forumers who are inspired by dreams

Fare The Well dear darling heart
You are too trampled on and are not fit
Fare Thee Well dear darling love
You are below the fair weather

Dear darling lover I cannot deal
With the love that comes and goes
As it pleases, oh darling close
I am not ready to face you again

Beautifully fall is not a bad thing. It's sort of when someone you love says something amazing and you feel your heart (literally) sort of fall... the butterfly feeling but not in the tummy, on the left side of your chest (where the heart is) xD

The heart that used to beautifully fall
Is no longer falling that way
So Fare Thee Well to my prince of hearts
I wish you could have spoken to me
"Tús maith, leath na hoibre!"

here's a poem I wrote a few minutes ago, just after I listened to Dobhar....it inspired me to write.

Dobhar

Home
Where is this place we call Home?
It is in our hearts.
You have stolen mine.
Bring it back. I can't live without it.
I need to go Home.
My spirit is waning, my soul is bereft.
My hands write words that speak of your theft.
My voice sings them, it's all that is left.
Home
Don't you have a home?
Is that why you stole mine?
Although you have my heart, I am not Home.
Home is where the heart is, but not now.
Bring me back home.

Tears fall down.
Shadows grow longer.
I hear of your passing.
My heart returns.
I return home.

I don't think it's all that great to be quite honest, but I wonder what you guys think?

Song of David

Postby Calogero » Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:30 am

Didn't like this Moya's song at first listen, but am savoring it as the days go by:

Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us

Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us
Go mola na ciníocha thú a Dhia
May the peoples praise you, oh God
Go mola na ciníocha go léir thú
May all the peoples praise you
Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us

Taispeáin dúinn solas do ghnúise
Look on us with kindness
Chun go naithneofaí do shíl ar talamh
So that the whole world may know your will
Agus do shlánú i measc na náisiún go léir
So that all nations may know your salvation
Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us

Go ndéana na náisiún lúcháir agus gairdeas
May the nations be glad and sing for joy
Toisc go rialaíonn tú an domhan le fíréantacht
Because you judge the peoples with justice
Teoraíonn tú na náisiún ar talamh
And guide every nation on earth
Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us

Thug an talamh a thoradh uaidh go flúirseach
The land has produced its harvest
Agus chuir Dia ár nDia a bheannacht orainn
God, our God, has blessed us
Go mbeannaí ár nDia i gcónaí sinn
God has blessed us
Agus gurab eagal le críocha na cruinne é
May all people everywhere honor him

Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us
Go mola na ciníocha thú a Dhia
May the peoples praise you, oh God
Go mola na ciníocha go léir thú
May all the peoples praise you
Bí trócaireach linn a Thiarna agus beannaigh sinn
God, be merciful to us and bless us

phantas great poem

Postby Calogero » Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:43 am

Hi Phantas,

I don't think it's all that great to be quite honest, but I wonder what you guys think?

I don't know who did steal your heart, but I'm telling you: your peom is nice... really nice. Is this a poem inspired by a grief or...?

Well, as it is no-one has stolen my heart yet :D but the poem was inspired by the track (instrumental) "Dobhar" on the album Anam by Clannad. It's a soft piano instrumental. I can write fairly easily on things that I haven't even experienced - I don't know why, I just do :P LOL.

Thanks for the compliment. I personally feel I could do better, somehow the poem seems to staccato to fit to the instrumental, but it was what I could come up with at the time :)

I was bored at work today, and wrote a small poem based on a character I'm working on with one of my FanFics.

Long lost is the broken heart,
Lost in time, lost in Love
Long lost is the desperate soul
Wandering long and gone
Lost in the Forest is the lion's roar
Forever gone, 'till nothing more
Imperfect is the new perfect

That's also part of what makes us so different from animals...
We're inspired beings.

Ocean Grave

White foam on the sandy beaches
a grey cloud hangs over me
casting its shadow beyond the horizon
casting me out into the sea

Green trees so full of leaves
Stand at the side of the cliffs at my side
Behind me the ocean roars
a storm is coming, it's raging on high

Now darkness is falling
the night sky turns black
I yearn to live again
but there's not turning back

My soul has been taken
by the beloved sea
My body is aching
it's leaving me

Lying in darkness
which is not same as night
I feel and hear the ocean
its waves are the light.

Take it All

Take the lake and take the sea
take them both far away from me
they harbour my wrath, my sorrow
I can't bear to see them again tomorrow

Take the mountains, take the rocks
You'll find I have plenty in stock
they keep my secrets, thousandfold
But no longer are they mine to hold

Take these hands and take this heart
As fortune favours in the cards
they nurtured and tortured me too much
but be careful as they might break upon the touch

Take the sun and take the moon
Into the world I've been thrown too soon
Now remove it all from me, I beg of you
I can no longer bear the lies so true.

Re: Songs and poems

Postby Briannah » Tue Mar 04, 2014 12:49 am

This was written during a very turbulent time in my life . . . when I was at the very bottom of the pit of life, hanging onto a thread for a reason to live . . .

In the Middle of the Crossroads

Could I leave you in good conscience while in my heart there's still a dim light?
Could I turn my back on all I know is good and right?
Would you hold me through my life and all through the disquieting night?
I wish I loved myself enough to stay grounded instead of resembling a high flying kite
At times I feel as though enfolded in thick fog and then suffocated by the night
Do I really love you enough to stand up and fight?
I question myself always, I question my reasoning, my jaded insight
I wish I could be what you really want, measure up to you in height
But I am little to nothing, my feelings are complicated and I am trite
I am eaten up by isolation, and by nature I am eremite

I crave kindness, simplicity, and passion in my life
I crave a hideaway from the mass of men and all my internal strife
I long for release from my sorrow and the double bladed knife--
That is my life

I'm happy to remain caught in this limbo state
Dangling high above my fate
But this evanescent life I do hate, my feelings prey upon me and greatly irritate
A minute feels like eternity
When you've lost all sanity
My dream is to return to all that is infinity
But oh, yes! all is vanity

Oh if I could but take life as it comes at me
And make myself a place of peace in the belly of equanimity
I could carry on quite famously
But oh . . . the sea is a good place to be

Caught in that gelatinous, warm middle plane
Where there's nothing to lose and little to nothing to gain
No worries whether the sun should shine or the sky, rain
There is no crying, laughter, or pain

In the middle of the road where crossways meet
Before the victory, before defeat
Between the cold air and the heat
You've nowhere to stand and one can't find a seat
In the middle of the road where the crossways meet

And life comes at me angrily
Without a shield of gallantry
And I would pause to consider with pity
Both oh, the sea is a good place to be
And you want me to flee from this soft place
Where I can run or crawl, go at my own pace
You want me to stand at attention, my problems to face
I don't know whether I want to be here, give way to a slow erase

I really don't know what would suit me
Yet I do know the sea is a good place to be

BCR - I thought it was a good place for me to begin again here. This was once my "home" online, and at times, Moya's music is all I have when I'm so low I don't think I can carry on, but I can and I do. ;) I have fallen deeply in love with a man I once loved long ago, but never got a chance to truly be with. After all we have both gone through in our separate lives, we've found each other once more and we'll never sever.

I Belong to You

When all the world is silent
I can forget all that to me was done, the vulgar and the violent
I can forget that I was led along by the torrent, that I usurped myself from making a choice
For in you I have found something precious, something pure
A love that burns deeply, that burns sure
It lights up my darkened world and in my abyss, I can endure
You’ve found a path into my heart and in your healing touch, you possess a cure
Now I know I can never be whole without you by my side
I can never be the “real” me unless with yours, my path can converge
And permanently in your heart reside
It is more than a feeling, so much more than a fancy or an urge
You are the reason I want to continue to be, to grow beyond that which I am
You touch my life with a thousand sensations that can only mean one thing
In the shadow of your smile you give me refuge, you grant me sweet asylum
To you, my love, to the deepest parts of your heart, to the inner you I cling
You are the calm after the storm
The break in my clouds of thick gloom
For it is you who brings joy into my life, who touches the coldness within and makes me warm
I long to hold you close and find myself by your side every morning in the darkness of your room
You are my honesty, the keeper of all my secrets
And I live to know you better and bring sunshine into your days
I have no inhibitions, no regrets
My love, you’re all I need in life, your sweet music continues to serenade me and throughout the rest of my life, it plays

BCR - ;) For AJW, Love of my life
