Favourite song by Clannad

Postby Spiritualized » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:20 pm

Many apologies if this topic has already been done so mods please feel free to merge it but I was wondering what your favourite Clannad song is?

I have several though given the quality of their songs, it was very hard to choose; absolutely adore Theme From Harry's Game, Caislean Oir, Dulaman, I Will Find You and A Mhuirnin O.

I have to ask, are those since Sunday, or were you unbelievably lucky at the concert?

Personally I'm not sure I could ever choose, but I adore Closer to Your Heart, Hourglass....and too many others

I have to say I was just damned lucky on Sunday :D
I was hoping she'd sing at least Theme From Harry's Game if none of the others but I was one very happy, lucky gal :D

I think that's one song you can always be pretty sure she'll sing :D

I'm amazed you haven't caught Moya or Clannad before! They weren't all that far away from you last year.

Moya's band, even in its smaller version, can do that song so well it's like listening to it on a Clannad record.

It's hard to choose a favorite but I do really love Dulaman and I will find you. There are so many that I like that it would take all day to list them all.

It's a difficult question. On each album there is at least one favouritet tune for me. Some songs I can listen to for more than one hour continuously all the time. They are: Do na Dlo sv, Farawell Love, Alasdair Mac Colla, Christmas Angels, Caislean Óir (I prefer movie version), Turning Tide, A Mhuirnín Ó (I prefer live version), Strange Land, The Pretty Maid, Mighty Chase & Dance (from Robin Hood) ...I'll never get bored of them....

As for Dulaman when I first heard it on The Ultimate Collection, which was my second Clannad cassette, I didn't like it at first. I didn't like any folk songs from the album. I just didn't know folk music before. Gaelic and Dulaman sounded like some Japanese :) I liked the songs later on. The same situation was with Enya. When I bought all Clannad albums available on cassettes, not too many actually, the seller sold me Enya - The memory of trees. I didn't like the music at first but later on I liked it very much.

That' great that the topic comes back, because, as for me, I'm constantly rediscovering Clannad's songs anew. One of my favourites are NewGrange, Coinleach Glas An Fhómhair (Magical Ring version), Caide Sin Do'n Te Sin, An gabhar ban, Poison Glen, etc.... Lately, I once again started to really like Christmas Angels and Forces of Nature.
And it all goes like in a loop

The Poison Glen is a definite favorite. An Tull and Teidir Abhaile Riu are also, especially live. I also think that Hourglass is lovely and don't understand why is wasn't included as a main album track on a studio album.

Depending on mood, but these are some of my all-time favourites:

01. Herne
02. Caislean Oir
03. Sunset Dreams
04. Morning Dew
05. Mrs. McDermott (especially the Live version)
06. Rí Na Cruinne
07. Almost Seems Too Late Too Turn
08. Lady Marian
09. White Fool /Turning Tide (both are superb)
10. Farewell Love

I like a lot of songs from Lore, and Banba is great also. Landmarks is good, but I do not have definite favourites from that album (yet). I think I like Clannad's older work more even than newer, with the exception of Banba and Lore.....strangely enough :D

If I amy put some Moya favs in as well:

01. Grá Dé
02. Harpsong / Two Horizons combo
03. Against the Wind
04. To The Water / Where I Stand (can't choose LOL)
05. Do You Hear - Don Oiche ud I mBeithil ... (yes strange choice but I really like the gaelic song)

;)

Love,
