Even though Clannad have used electronic stuff in their music throughout their career, I've always felt that Clannad is a mostly acoustic band in any case - which is why I'm not superbly over the moon with this news. I'd rather have a decent new album with gorgeous tracks which inspire, which seem to capture the fun Clannad has while recording.
That isn't to say that this album might not capture that spirit, but if they're using old songs it takes away a bit of the magic for me.
As someone mentioned Landmarks, I think that's a good example of what I'm talking about here - everytime I play it, it feels very acoustic even though they use electrical instruments (guitar) and electronic sounds (synth). Unfortunately, I do not think of Landmarks as a very inspiring album, even though there are some great tracks on it and Clannad is in top form. It just sounds too...jazzy, too laidback, too "we're giving it another go and then say goodbye" kind of feel (does this make any sense? It's hard to put under words!). Jaded perhaps? But it's not a word I'd describe Clannad with.
I would like to see an album that has new songs and tracks, which really sparkle. However one may look at the album Sirius for example, it sparkles because it is so different and after all this time still sounds as fresh (strangely enough).
So, I'm not jumping for joy, even though it may be great to hear from Clannad again, it sounds just a bit too much like yet another collection album, only this time it's real Clannad and acoustic.
Love,
