Me too! I only found Moya just before last Christmas. I had no idea she did solo albums  and then I saw one in the shop (TH) and just jumped forward and grabbed it off the shelf, nearly knocking this poor little kid over in the process   Since then I've fallen in love.

I should also admit that I didn't really like Enya at first, but as I got used to Clannad and Moya, I've begun to warm more to Enya's music as well. I still prefer the 'other sister' though (Moya and Clannad :) ) to Enya, but I'm beginning to like her work much more.

My automatic response would have been Enya.... but then thinking about it I realise that I used to watch the Robin Hood series that Clannad sang the title song for. I loved that song soooo much that I used to mainly watch the series just to hear it, just the style and the voices. Then years later I heard Enya, and after that I learned about Clannad... and only then found out it was Clannad that had done that song for Robin Hood.... and then learned about Moya.

Amazing how these things all come together throughout a person's life. :D

Hi,

my first impression of Irish music was the music of Enya. Then came Clannad and then I discovered Moya's music.

I first heard of Enya. I would have heard of Clannad much earlier but my husband basically listened to them all day/every day at work & I had no clue of this secret life.

Does anyone know if Clannad is still actually together? Does Moya just go solo every once in a where or is this permanent?

Well Moya is most definately a solo-artist; she has done pretty well with her 5 albums so far, don't you think. As with regard to Clannad. It seems that they have taken a long break, but they are very much together. How could they split up, they are family after all. If you want more on Clannad, check out the Clannad topics. There is loads of news about the band and it's members there.

Oh and welcome to the forum

just to add to what Mise said, welcome to the forum, Kate, is it? also- just because moya does solo work doens't mean she can't do Clannad as well. as far as the interviews etc go, clannad are al very much involved in the music business at the mo, just separately, and we're HOPING to hear more from them all together soon, but you can read up on that in the Clannad topics.
welcome again,

mise and nessieq -

Thanks to both of you for the warm welcome. My husband, Martin, is actually the really big Maire/Moya fan at our house but he's half way across the USA working at the moment. He's never posted to a message board & I've just found this one today. I'm sure he'll be happy to lurk the messages over the Holidays when he'll be home.

Yes, nessieq - it's "Kate". We live on the East Coast, USA about an hour north or Washington DC.

The dress you made is beautiful! I loved the way Moya was dressed the night we saw her.

Thanks to both of you for the advice about the Clannad threads. We'll have to catch up on the news.

Thanks Again,
~Kate

PS.... Most of my ancesters were Irish. I believe from County Mayo and I seem to vaguely remember hearing about Donegal, as well.

hey there Kate...
nice to see someone new on teh forum, and perhaps your husband can post when he gets back from work.
if you'd like to tell us more about yourself, there are a few topics for stuff like that in the "fan space" and thanks for yur sovely comments about my dress..... it was based on the work of ciaran sweeney, who designs lots of moya's dresses, so maybe moya was wearing one the night you saw her. d'you have any photos....?
love,
nq.

Clannad, with the Robin of Sherwood series. But maybe I even heard of Enya before that, don't remember really.
At first I thought that Enya was actually the singer of Clannad going solo, then I found out that that was her sister Máire  .

I heard of Clannad first with 'Anam' and then I heard all of their past CDs and Tapes (and a few records) as my family are very into that tye of music. I then heard of Eithne when she sang"The Celts". Again I began listening to all of her CDs and Tapes. Then I heard of Moya with 'Máire'. I now have all of the Clannad and Máire Brennan albums. I have all but one of the Eithne CDs. The CD which I don't have is Suimeargasa. I'll try and get that CD in town.

hi there!

as i am too young and from the wrong country, i knew enya first. to be honest i still like her most, i guess. but that is depending very much on the fact which music i listen at a time. if i listen to clannad, i'm sure i like them most, until i listen to one of moya's or enya's songs...

i read the book of moya, and then i went to look for the music she was talking about. by then i knew since some years of enya's music. i was looking for a disc of moya, but first i found clannad, but soon after that, i found also "whisper to the wild water" which is one of my most favourite record!
