I really love that lyric, dragon girl! You really have a talent. You play with words and sounds, I like the way you do that.

Hey guys,
I was thinking, and I realized that I've posted loads of songs, but no actual poetry. I'm not so good at that, but I figure I might as well share some. Also, I said in one of my posts that Portland is the capitol of Maine. That's wrong. It's the biggest city in Maine. Augusta is the capitol. Here are a few of my English assignments. Let me know what you think.

Everybody's Welcome in New York

On September fourteenth of 1847, the Lady,
Mayoress held a ball up in Dublin with dancing and a,
Plenitude, and plethora of food, and on that same day,
The frate ships lurched out from Cork harbor, stuffed with the last,
Bread and butter and barley of the children of Galway.

Starvation was the solution for the English.

And Irishmen just off the Liberty ships in New York,
Looking for a good day's work and a good day's bread were told,
"No Irish need apply here. You aren't welcome here. Go home."
PS: No offense meant to any Englishmen/women here. It's just that Irish people have historically had problems with them. Again, no offense meant.

Lines

Here upon this high unpeopled hill I sit,
Trying to find the pretty, witty line I lost.
I recline supine upon the grass and sigh,
With dandelions dallying at my feet,
And a pair of wild sunbeams dancing in my hair.
There's a tree just over there. I feel the shade.

My nimble fingers slip between the grasses,
Still stubbornly searching, seeking that loose line.
That divine line is mine, and I want it back,
But it's gone now. Not even Blake could find it.
This line was born way before Witman and Yeats.
It's been running from poets forever now.

So my mischievous line plays its little game,
Losing me by getting lost in other lines,
Lines of the filthy sky above the City,
Lines of cars, lines of Time Square, Time Rectangle,
Lines of the library guarded by lions
Standing on some striped concrete savanna, bare.

How pure we were before the lines of our times,
Before the plague of collisions hit the streets,
Before this grainy oil slick bled from the cars.
How sad it is to watch the smog hook in here.
How sad to know the sun can't see us falling,
To see the lines all running together, lost.

It's dawn. It's so late to try to change things here.
Still, I don't have three words in my hard head yet.
I have a million lines, though, a million lines,
Lines of poets, lines of braille, lines of pictures.
Time lines take care of us, keep us from mistakes.
My lines are careful, too, when I can find them.

University

Upstage, downstage, left, right, and center stage,
Your gilded cage, printed page, university.
We talk chockablock, rise up, and walk the walk,
Go to talks, read a lot, university.
So vainglorious, amusing, uproarious.
Glory us! Story us, university.
It's a new age H Block, university.

Tock-tick goes the clock. Time flies. It never stops
Clipper ship, student skips, university.
Back goes the bric-a-brac. We really have to change that.
The nonchalant high echelon, university.
The Lastt Supper, honored fasts. I really don't believe that.
High inspired, sick and tired, university.
It's a blocked off back track, university.

This school's real cool. Crazy parties, playing pool.
Do what ever, play it cool, university.
Network, get work. College kids have lots of perks.
Shirk your job you lose your work, university.
People play, get paid. What else is there to say?
Earn your pay, make your way, university.
It's a re-formed, reborn, university.

Hope you like these. They're not perfect, but I wrote them all the day before class, so...
See you!

Moments
I am tired of this moment
Bored of the dreams that never exist
I am tired of this storm,
I hope that it will pass,
but it will not.

I scream to the night
Hoping to be heard
I hear a voice
It whispers.

I hear its words
I hear its voice
I hear its song.

I see the stars,
they shine out,
they guide me
to my true path.

One that I must follow,
one away from this world of hatred.
One that will guide me through
through all the turmoil, and the strife.

I will walk across oceans of night
I shall see the black moon fade
I will see my life.

I will live a dream of dreams.
One away from all the storms.
No hatred.
No prejudice.
No judging.

I will find my wings.
Those that make me fly.
I will never leave the happiness
the joy,
the love.

For it will be forever in my heart.
Behind the innocent,
the last, the least and the lost
will be found in the storm

I have this song stuck in my head and I love it. I thought you all might as well so I have posted it here.

WE by Joy Williams

She's independent and beautiful
Wish I could be like her
She's got the girls and the boys
So wrapped around her finger
Rumor is she's some kind of dream
Nobody knows she cries herself to sleep

We are not that different from each other
We just want somebody to discover
Who we really are when we drop our guard
That love has gotta start with you and me
We

He's on the top of the social scene
He's stylish cool and clever
He's got a cool attitude that screams
He's got it all together

You'd think he's addicted to himself
But he wishes he could be someone else

We are not that different from each other
We just want somebody to discover
Who we really are when we drop our guard
That love has gotta start with you and me

We've gotta come togeher
Oh You know you don't ever have to be alone
You've got a hand to hold

Yeah Lalala Oh Oh Oh

We are not that different from each other
We just want somebody to discover
Who we really are when we drop our guard
That love has gotta start with you and me
We Oh Oh And We And We You and me We
We've gotta come together

Thank You
I am forever grateful to you,
you have shown me what they are really like,
you forgive me,
you show me the light.

I thank you.

Thank you for making everything clear,
thank you for the silence,
thank you for the moon,
thank you for the sky.

Thank you.

Thank you for no longer being mesocistic,
thank you for remembering me,
thank you for being there for me,
thank you for not judging
thank you for being my hope.

Thank you.

I thank you for all the light you give me,
I thank you for all the hope,
and sadness you have brought to my life.
I thank you for all the good times,
and the bad.

I thank you.

You are the angel,
the goddess of Light.
The Voice of voices,
you are the one I turn to.
You gave me life,
You lifted me up when I couldn't reach.

I thank you.

I thank you.
Behind the innocent,
the last, the least and the lost

For some reason, I have gotten into writing poems, and to me, they seem to be rather like a journey, almost as if I'm trying to find myself, so here are few of them.

I Am Walking
Is this what I truly see?
All the hatred?
All the descruction?
I think it is.

I am tired of living my life,
surrounded by hatred,
shame,
prejudice.

Will I ever be free?
Maybe.
Who knows what time will not tell us?

I am walking on an ocean
as black as night.
I see no stars
for they have not been painted.
I see no moon
for it has not been mended.

I see eyes of hatred
eyes of guilt
eyes of innocence.

I see a forest
one enchanted,
one of hope,
of faith.

I see an angel,
she shows me
my life,
and what it is to be.
I follow her,
I hear her voice,
it comforts me.

I see a mountain,
one that stares
across the lands before it.

I see a light in the sky,
it guides me
to my path,
my true destiny,
one away from all this.
One where I can be free.

No one listens.
No one cares.
Inside, I am screaming.
There is no one to talk to.
No one to listen.
No one to share a life.

Does no one care?

Many Paths
All I see is a road
of emptiness,
of despair,
of darkness.

All I see is a lonesome path.
No one beside me.
No one.

I see a river,
one of tears,
of sadness,
of longing.

Oh how this river flows.
Through all the glens,
and the vales.
Awating a reprise.
A reprise that will not come.

This river forever flows.
Never ending.
Never right.
It shimmers in the moonlight.
It shows me my life,
what it was,
what it is,
and what has yet to come.

All I see is darkness.
There is no moon.
No light.
No stars that shine
enough for me to follow.

I see a life of misery.
One of destruction,
of desolance,
destraught,
still, no one cares.

All that I see,
all that I hear,
all that is,
all that was,
and all that is to come,
they will never cease to be.

I see no hope,
no faith,
no fortune,
no love,
no affection,
but still somehow, I go on.

I do not believe for I am not believed.
I accept, though I am shunned.
I hope, and so do they.

I am forever lost,
no one to find,
no one to help,
no one to laugh with,
to hold a hand.

I will never find my way,
for my way is lost.
I will never manage,
I will never cope,
but I will still go on,
I will hold on,
I will believe,
I will be.

I will be who I was meant to be,
I will not give them the satisfaction.
I will be.
I will be.

Falling
Oh long dreaming.
When will I realise?
These fears,
these pains,
they will never cease.

I am surrounded
by a mountainous wall,
one that keeps rebuilding
everytime I knock it down.

I am surrounded.
No one will help me.
No one cares.
I am screaming to the night,
I get no answer.

I am forever hopeful.
Oh when will I realise?
These feelings,
these thoughts,
they will never cease.

I hope for a reprive,
it will not come.
I will not realise,
it will not come.

I am falling,
deeper,
deeper,
untill I reach an end,
from which I can never return.

I am falling.

I am drowned by voices,
screaming,
shouting,
those nasty things,
these voices will haunt me,
that is what they do.

I am all alone,
I see no end,
inside, I am screaming,
but no one realises.
No one cares.
No one believes.

They shower me
with their hatred,
their poisoned tongues,
their vile words.
They don't care,
for they do not believe.

I am all alone,
no one to turn to,
no where to run,
I am falling,
there is no one to help.

I will reach the end,
sooner than you realise,
and when I do,
you will not realise,
that what you do
has made me so.

When will you stop?
When will you?
Why do you do this?
You hurt me,
and you say its my fault.
You don't care,
you never have.

I am sickened,
your words,
your thoughts,
I am sickened.

I am forever falling,
I will reach the end,
and when I do,
you will not care.

You will not care.

I think that'll do for now before I get told off
Behind the innocent,
the last, the least and the lost
will be found in the storm

No One Cares
No one sees the pain,
the hurt,
the fear,
the torment.

You don't see what's happening,
you don't even realise you're doing it.
You don't care,
but I do,
when will you realise?

I'm all alone,
and you do not care,
I have no one to turn to,
I'm on my own,
no one to talk to,
but you don't care,
no one does.

Why do I even exist?
Why do you do this?
You ignore what's happening,
you don't care.

I'm alone,
no one to turn to,
no one to talk to,
all my fears,
all my pains,
you don't care.

You don't belive me,
you hate me,
and you say you don't.

I'm alone,
and you don't care,
you have made me so,
I can't look beyond you,
see what I've become?

I wasn't like this,
'til I met you,
I'm alone,
and you don't care.
You never have.

I see no way forward,
you don't care,
All I see is the hate,
your poisoned tongues,
still, no one cares.

When I'm low,
no one helps me up,
no one talks to me,
no one cares.

I believe, but you don't.
I accept, though I am shunned,
I'm alone,
and you don't care.

You say it is all my fault,
it isn't, for you have made
me like this.

You say 'its not that bad',
you don't realise,
you are stuck in your own happy world,
please, open your eyes
and see reality.

If only you took a moment
to help,
to care,
to talk.

All it takes is a moment,
a moment that you will not give,
just a moment,
please,
and maybe you'll see what its really like.

Maybe someday you'll realise,
but it will be too late then,
all it takes is a moment,
a moment you will not give.

A moment is all I ask.
Behind the innocent,
the last, the least and the lost
will be found in the storm

They sound a little sad indeed. I get the idea your poems are more thoughts you are writing down if you get what I mean, there isn't really a rhyme coming back (not that poetry necessarily needs rhyme). Hopefully your tough tme will be over soon.

Marlies,

Indeed, they are more thoughts, and poetry doesn't necessarily have to ryhme.

Here's another

A Year Passes
Flowers bloom
all across the land,
raindrops fall,
how they stain the ground.

A year gone by,
a new one begins,
one of beauty,
irridescence,
harmony.

Oh how beautiful
those flowers,
all across the land.

A golden sun,
sparkles in a
lonesome stream.

Leaves flutter
in the breeze,
birds call,
a year passes.

The lands
lay still,
no more sound,
no flowers,
a cold wind blows.

A ray of light,
brings hope,
warmth,
happiness,
a new year.

The rivers flow,
a rush of endless joy
throughout the valleys
and the glens.

The mountains stare,
they see the new times,
they give life,
joyous time.

The flowers bloom,
all across the land,
their colour
splashed across the hillside.

The rivers run by,
a torrent of life,
happiness,
joy.

The sun glistens
among the waves,
the sun glints
on leaves of wisdom.

Oh joyous time,
let us treasure what we have,
and not forget the hope,
the joy,
those memories
of time gone by.

A year passes
Behind the innocent,
the last, the least and the lost
will be found in the storm

Siúil ag siúl an bhealach seo
Walk, walk this way,
show me the road,
help me find the path.

Walk, walk toward me,
let me be free,
let me soar above the clouds.

I see a blue sky,
I will not give up,
I will fly,
I will rise up.

Siúil ag siúil an bhealach seo.

Maidin, is fagaim mo bhaile,
Móraim thú,
Móraim thú.

I thank you
for the silence,
the forgiving,
the pride.

Móraim thú,
Móraim thú,
ó oích' go hoích'.

I hear the silence
of a sky,
a storm is nigh.

I stand my ground,
waiting to be found,
for he is nigh.

Móraim thú
Móraim thú,
M'anam, mo chroí, mo ghlóir,
Moladh duit, a Dhia

Siúil ag siúil an bhealach seo,
Siúil ag siúil an bhealach seo,
A mhíle stoirín,
Siúil ag siúil an bhealach seo.

I search the night,
I see no light,
I see none in sight,
I search the night.

I am calling you,
my love,
I am calling,
Walk this way.

Móraim thú
Móraim thú,
M'anam, mo chroí, mo ghlóir,
Moladh duit, a Dhia

Siúil ag siúil an bhealach seo.

A mhíle grá
Siúl ag siúl an bhealach seo.

Nice one! I like the use of the two languages. I've always been a fan of bilingual stuff, Gaelic in particular.

Thanks!

Big hug back

The words just seemed to fit into that poem, and I really like it, I know they're "lines" from Enya and Clannad songs, but they just fitted, I wasn't listening to those songs at that time, I was actually listening to Alanis Morissette, but the words just popped into my mind and onto the screen, and I like the rythm of it.

Once again, thanks

Okay, as anyone can tell you if you've read my stuff I write some off the wall things.

If you can get all of the literary references, the metre, and the poetic form I mess with in this one... I'll give you a cookie cake. ;)

Parchéd Willow the singer sings
Come home come home to many things
Sing of the many wondrous things
That came to us on Ballad’s dreams

Sing of adventures many new
Of Tristan and his Lady fair
Sing of the wit of Dor’thea
Sing of Aeneas and his crew

Sing Willow sing, sing Willow sing
Let not your mem’ries fade so fast
Let not the dew of glories past
So fast melt not from treetop limbs
But scatters slowly from the bough
And fall upon the list’ner’s brow
