What is the size limit on posting pictures here?

Postby Nigel » Tue Sep 14, 2004 1:42 pm

Hi,

Just wondering if you would allow me to post big pictures of Moya in one of the forums. They are about 1MB - 2MB each, and have a resolution of about 2000 X 2000 each.

So is there a limit, or should i use a link to the pictures.

I don't know what the limit for pictures is Nigel, but I posted a rather large picture of my pets once and that wasn't a problem.
Just give it a try, I'd say! :D

What is SOCKS proxy server?
SOCKS is a networking proxy protocol that enables hosts on one side of a SOCKS server to gain full access to hosts on the other side of the SOCKS server without requiring direct IP-reachability. SOCKS is often used as a network firewall, redirecting connection requests from hosts on opposite sides of a SOCKS server. The SOCKS server authenticates and authorizes requests, establishes a proxy connection, and relays data between hosts.

I'd strongly advise against posting such massive pictures using IMG tags, as they're not very dial-up friendly.

Each picture of about 1MB would take about 20 minutes for a dial-up user to download. That's not very nice!

A far better idea is to get hold of some image-editing software if you haven't already got some. Irfanview is an excellent freeware solution if you can't afford anything or don't want to shell out.

Using that, make a copy of your image at a much smaller "thumbnail" resolution, say no more than 120 by 120 pixels. This should save to no more than a few KB.

Then ... here's the clever bit! You use IMG to link to the uploaded thumbnail and make it a URL (link) to the bigger image, and give text advising of how big the full-size image is.

Example time :)

Click on either the thumbnail or the text for a bigger view (sorry it's not Moya).

The code to achieve this is as follows:

Code: Select all
[url=http://www.angmail.fsnet.co.uk/pictures/hainan06.jpg][img]http://www.angmail.fsnet.co.uk/pictures/hainan06t.gif[/img]

Substitute your own upload links in there.
