If you where saying Maire instead of Máire the 'a' would sound shorter. If you use the 'á' it sound like 2 a's.

Again Eithne in only pronounced 'Enya' in Donegal (that is how they said it before 'Enya' was thought of), but in the six counties in Ireland it is pronounced 'Ei-th-nya or Ay-ith-nya.

I just wanted to thank you, Roibeard, for telling us all that, I for one think it's completely facinating to hear how all the different names and words are pronounced so subtly differently, i knew there were differences, but not so many.

Your are not ignorant. You are just interested in Irish Names - Good on You :) ! I thinks it's brilliant to have so many people interested in things like this.

irish dialects seem to be more difficulte than any swissgerman ones... but thanks! i would have never thought of that.

are moya's songs in donegal dialect? is any irish speaking able to understand the other dialects? :?:
