Come Fly With Me!

My wife bought me a camera for Christmas that you can attach to a radio control plane and make a video of the flight.

I've tested it out today (Sunday 3rd January 2010) and uploaded the results to YouTube.

Have a look and see what you think! The first minute or so is a bit irregular as you get a bit of turbulence when taking off with the EasyStar, but after then you get some good aerial views of the flying field, lightly dusted in snow ....

Ness - she does know me well but I did also ask for one :)

Dave, I think that might be the last time I fly in snow. For some reason, snow and water seems to interfere with the radio gear. There were three crashes yesterday, and at one point I also nearly lost it (putting in a right and it banked left). Other members of the club told me that there had been crashes over the Christmas period, with some planes being written off :(

Wow, how cool is that!? Nice little vid, Angus.

Do you have a monitor on ground where you can watch what you're filming?

The camera was attached to the plane, but there is no radio link from the on-board camera to the ground, so I can only see what video footage I have once I've landed and connected the cam to a PC.

You can get systems where the camera links to VR goggles, and you wear the goggles while flying and see what the plane is seeing, so you really are flying it!
