Afraid of Eating Pork?

A friend from Carlow tells me of trouble in the Irish pork industry involving contaminated pig feed. Now markets across Europe are pulling Irish pork off the shelves. Will Ireland be scared kosher? Are rabbis being sought to intervene in the crisis?

Food scandals happen all the time. I will avoid Irish pork for a while until the problem is solved, just to be sure. Irish companies will hopefully change feed and after some time the problem will be forgotten. It's sad that companies take so little care of what is fed to the animals and of what will be eaten by us in the end.

It seems to be only one company which "did a mistake". The Irish Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food reacted very fast and forceful. All Irish pork will be withdrawn from the market. A piece of ham on a pizza shouldn't be a problem.

While I wouldn't say 'things like this happen all the time' they do happen - people always get so panicky about it all, and most of that is just fuelled by the media. I'm sure it'll all be sorted out in no time - personally I feel awful for the animals.

And before anyone asks - I'm vegetarian

Believe it or not, I'm allergic to pork - so I have to avoid it, regardless of where it comes from!!!!

I agree with Grania, though. The media will always "hype things up" to suit their own agenda. At the end of the day, it's impossible to avoid absolutely everything that might potentially do you harm.

Let's just hope it's all sorted quickly, and then the media will move on to something else and the panic will then more than likely subside.

I don't eat pork anyway, not that we get the Irish product here so it doesn't affect me too much.

My mom pointed me to a really icky documentary on the subject of pork from the US recently... seems they have a bit of a problem there of their own. *shudder*

I do, however, find it really sad how we keep introducing more and more chemicals and nonsense into the environment and many of these are finding their way into our food supply.

*goes off to eat some butternut soup*
