Most of the artists that I like have already been mentioned above. There's hardly anything to add.:D

One of my favourite singers and songwriters is Dido. Her music is a bit mainstream, but I like it even though. http://www.didomusic.com/

I also like the music of Nickelback. Their music is something between pop and heavy metal. http://www.nickelback.com/

have to say that I loved the first album, but the second was kind of a let down in comparison, and i think it'll date a lot quicker than "No Angel". I'm wondering about any future plans for dido- anyone know if she's going to be releasing another album any time soon? It's been a while, hasnt it?

I would like to recommend the flw artist/band:

Blackmore's Night

Official Homepage http://www.blackmoresnight.com

Dutch Fanclub Site: http://www.blackmoresnight.nl

Blackmore's Night is a band, consisting of about seven people.
They make Renaissance/medieval styled music with a rock twist.
The front man & woman are:
Ritchie Blackmore & Candice Night

Candice is the singer of the band and their latest album, "The Village Lanterne" should be coming out sometime during February.

Many ppl will know Ritchie Blackmore from his Deep Purple and Rainbow background. He loves playing and listening to Renaissance music, which is why he has chosen this direction. However, he still plays some rock classics (for example, "Smoke on the Water") and the latest cd will feature the combined song of Mond Tanz with Deep Purple's Child in Time!

But, the old classic will have gone through the "blackmorizing machine" and transformed to a mix between Renaissance and Rock.

Love,
Phantas

Yes Rainbow was very good when I saw them live and Blackmore was pretty impressive...I think some guy name Dio was singing with them, interesting to see that Blackmore is still recording music 8)
Most likely you will hear me before you see me...

REM - one of my favourite bands ever. :)

They have recorded many classic songs and albums over the years, but nothing can prepare you for seeing them live..... Awesome.

I highly recommend "In time" the best of REM, lots of amazing tunes on it. However, if they happen to tour again, I'd definately go back for more (even if my ears did ring afterwards for 2 days)
Music is food for the soul.

I agree with you that her first album was a bit better. I like "Life For Rent", but "No Angel" is rather unbeatable. I doubt that she'll ever produce something like this again.
After her second album, she released a music DVD called "Dido Live At Brixton Academy". Her live performances are rather amazing and I even think that some of the songs sound better than on the original albums.
But as far as I know, there isn't any news about the release date of another album. There's rumour that it will already be this year, but it's just rumour.
She's doing a lot of things between the release of her albums, like promoting, touring, writing songs for other artists, working with her brother....but I hope that she'll soon release a new album again.

I must pick that up- thanks for recomending it, i'd no idea such a thing existed, lol. I'd be interested to see what she comes up with but, to be honest, i think her music's gotten far too commercially 'pop' and i really dont get it at all. I doubt I'll buy her next album unless i'm really crazy about some single or whatever.

i like dido too. i was at her concert 2 years ago with a friend. i actually only went to the concert to see this friend again. but it was wonderful. i had to buy the albums later because i was always humming "life for rent".

some other artist who i really really like and who is live better than any album is Pippo Pollina. he's italian, but lives in switzerland. he sings in german, swissgerman, french and english but mostly in italian. he's lyrics are great and very critic to the mafia and the italian government (also a mafia).

One of my favourites, not yet mentioned  has got to be Eden's Bridge.

A cool Celtic Christian worship band that hails from the North of England, I find their music very uplifting and easy to listen to.

Some of their music is gentle and flowing but they do have some more up-beat stuff.

LizzyRyan ..... if you've managed to listen to Picture Me yet ..... did you notice the word that was left out in the line, "Picture Me when it feels like ..." ?!?!?!?!?!! :?: :?: :!: :?:

a band i like (mostly) is ERA. the songs are in latin i think and have a good melody and rythm. but the 3rd album THE MASS i wouldn't recommend as it seems to me just like the first album ERA.
ERA and ERA 2 are wonderful!

also a great musician and songwriter is Aimee Mann. she wrote the music to the movie magnolia. just that she wrote the music before the movie existet and they made the movie because of her songs! she is really great and i love her lyrics.
