Moya's Christmas Concerts in Germany

Postby Susann » Thu Dec 02, 2010 11:11 pm

Last Friday I was to Moya's concert in Jena. On the way to Jena I got a text message from an other great German Moya-fan. She asked if I have realised that venue has changed it. I didn't know it and I asked myself why. When I came to Jena I walked at first to the new venue "Stadtkirche" and then to the other church "Friedenskirche". Now I knew why they changed. The church "Stadtkirche" was much bigger than the other one. The church was very crowded which was good because the heating system didn't really work. The concert was brilliant as ever. Bye the way it was Ian's birthday and we sang Happy Birthday for him.

Here are some photos not even from Jena also from Weimar were I stayed with a cousin of mine and his wife - who were also to the concert - over the weekend.

Last Saturday I was to Moya's concert in Hamburg. It was amazing!!! I have never heard such a sound like in this church :D :D :D . When they started with the first song I just thought "WOW". When I was talking to Moya, Cormac and Sinéad after the concert they were also really happy about this perfect concert.

The whole weekend was perfect. It was my first time in Hamburg and I love this city. I arrived on Friday afternoon. At first I visited the "Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg" - the largest model railway in the world. On Saturday it was freezing but blue sky so I walked several hours through the city. It's really a fascinating city.

Unfortunately I had problems with my camera lens so I don't know if there are enough good photos to show it here. I hope I can post it later.

Thank God, I took many photos so I can post 80 of the pics here. But most of the pics are from the City of Hamburg.

Last Saturday I was also to the concert in Mainz. Here are some pictures
http://picasaweb.google.com/Susann177/M ... z11122010#

I enjoyed the three concerts very, very much. While listening to the miraculous music and whatching the colourful light show I could dream a little bit about my next trip to Ireland. Bye the way the light show looked in every church different - this was really fascinating.
Beside the concerts I visited the great City of Hamburg for the first time in my life and I was back in Jena after almost 30 years. And I met beloved relatives and friends in Jena and Mainz.

Many thanks Moya and band for three wonderful weekends !!! :D :D :D

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd do a bit of "forum recycling", as this thread isn't dated!

Just wondering if anyone's going to the Christmas concerts in Germany this year?

Unfortunately, I couldn't make the Rotterdam, or either of the Irish concerts, but after being snowed in last year, I'm determined to have another go. Soooooooo, Dave's off to..... Hamburg (well, it's a direct flight - that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it! :P)!

Anyone else going to Fliegende Bauten?

Hi Dave, I'm going to the concerts in Cologne, Mainz and Rotterdam.

The Venue "Fliegende Bauten" in Hamburg I don't know. It's a big tent. It will be quite special. Last year the concert was in a nice little church.

How many days are you staying in Hamburg? Hamburg is a really fantastic city.

I did think about going to Cologne, but couldn't get a suitable flight back. Hamburg looks good, though - and the Christmas markets will be on, too, so I'll have time to look at those, as I'm there for the equivalent of two days (arrive late Sunday, the concert's Monday, and return to the UK Tuesday lunchtime).

Besides, the idea of going to watch Moya and co. in a Big Top is something that appeals to my sense of humour, somehow!!!!

Last night I was to Moya’s concert in Cologne. This time I didn’t take photos. I wanted just relax, enjoy and dream. It was overwhelming again!!! :D :D :D On stage with Moya were Sinéad, Cormac, Ian and a new drummer – shame on me, I can’t remember his name. After the show Moya, Sinéad and Cormac spent a lot of time with their fans. It’s always nice to talk to them. They are so warm persons. They really enjoy meeting fans again. They gave me a big hug. :)

Here are most songs of the setlist:
My Match is a making
Crann Ull
In dulci jubilo
Falling
Tunes
What child is this
Bright Star
Tell me now
Tara
She moved through the fair
Mhorag's Na Horo Gheallaidh & Alasdair MacColla
Do you hear
Gabriel’s Message
Carolan’s Concerto
I will find you
Deck the halls
Carol of the bells
Against the wind
God rest ye merry gentleman
Oíche Chúin

But there were also to new Christmas songs included but I couldn’t catch the titles. Both are Gaelic songs. One was written by a monk about 300 years ago and the other one is the oldest Gaelic Christmas song - about 700 years old. I loved them. Tim - he was there just for the Cologne concert – told me that there will be a revised Christmas album with these 2 songs and another one.

It’s always a gift to be at Moya’s concerts. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Dave, how was Hamburg? You were backstage, weren’t you? :?

If it was the same guy who was in Hamburg (and I'm assuming it was!), his name was Wayne Sheehy. I thought he did quite a good job, especially as he apparently didn't have working earpieces for the first 4 songs in Hamburg!

Agreed - 100%!

Oh dear, so much for keeping it quiet......:oops: Thanks, Moya (or whoever it was that "snitched" on me)!!!!

Yes, the Hamburg gig was as brilliant as ever, and the setlist was pretty much the same as Cologne. I believe the only difference was that you weren't in a circus tent in Cologne!!!!!

And yes, afterwards we did retire for some post-gig drinks and banter (there's no way I'm turning an offer like that down!), so - joking aside - Moya, if you get to read this, go raibh míle, míle maith agat! :D

Hi Susann,

Thank you very much for sharing your story. It sounds like you had a wonderful time :D The setlist looks great (as usual :D ) and very nice too that they took a lot of time to talk to the fans afterwards. I still have hope that one day I will be able to go to a Moya Christmas concert. The atmosphere must be very special!

And what exciting news that there will be a revised Irish Christmas CD with 3 new songs! An Irish Christmas is still one of my all time favourite albums! Do you may be know when it will be released?

Love,

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

Nothing was mentioned in Hamburg, so I can't answer that, but I'm hoping to go up to Gweedore for New Year, so if you remind me nearer the time I'll ask Moya or Tim for you. Given Moya's schedule for the rest of the year, though, I'll be surprised if it comes out in time for this Christmas!
