Of This Land

Hi all

I was listening to 'Landmarks' today, and when I got to the song 'Of this land' I found myself thinking 'this has to be one of the most perfect songs in Clannad's repotoire' not to mention one of the best Moya has written - what are your views?

You forgot the option - "Don't know" :) I really have no idea whether that's true, there are soooo many songs that I feel are really really good - even as far back as their first album!!

But I'll agree that I do love that song ;) Haven't heard it in a while so it's very hard to say, but I'm planning on converting all my Clannad cd's and collected songs into mp3's anyway on my pc, so I'll certainly give it a listen soon!

Love,
Phantas

For me it IS one of the most beautiful songs Clannad has made, but then again there are far too many other songs that share the no.1 spot with this one, so it's not the best alone!

I didn't say you had to choose it as best  I wouldn't be that cruel.

Sorry Phantas, I should have thought of that option

(((((Grania)))))) Come on dear :) in any case I voted Yes I like it - your initial post gave me the impression also (TBH) that we should be choosing the BEST song ever written and sung by Moya/Clannad... :P

no biggy ;)

Love,
Phantas

Thanks Phantas.

OK, for the record, I'm not saying 'Of This Land' is the best, just, maybe, one of them :)

Absolutely love, Of this Land and also Let me see from Landmarks

Moya's song writing certainly went to another level on this album and perhaps guided her towards her solo career

I agree with you about Of This Land. I had it stuck in my head the whole time I was at Loughcrew. :) I'm not sure why it's so good. It's subtle and elegant, though. Maybe that's it. And the lyrics are very nice too.

'Of This Land' is one of the best songs in Clannad reportoire of course... Moya is very talented in writing songs. This track brigs some beauty to 'Landmarks' (it is a really good album but without 'Of This Land' it wouldn't be the same) So I've voted for the first option

I am also very fond of this song, definitely one of the best Clannad songs for me and It is my favourite of Landmarks, closely followed by Let me see, Fado and A Mhuirnin O.

Love,

Suzanne

Yes, it's definitely one of my favourites as well. There's just something about it that I can't quantify.

I really love Landmarks in general.

I'd offer to add an "I don't know" option to this poll, but I have a hunch it might delete the votes already cast :(

I've tried editing polls before Angus, don't think it can actually be done...not by a mod anyway :)

Mentioning Let me See, that's a strange tale as it is one of those songs that found its way into my brain through my ears and never leaving!
I love the way it is both melodious and yet at the same time 'edgy' ... meaning it has this strange jazz-melody within it which doesn't sound like anything at all and yet at the same time is as recognizable as any Clannad song!

And I adore the lyrics...if only to sing along with ;)

I like Of This Land...but I can't recall the melody at the moment...
