Definately Máire. I associate it with St. Mary- it's very catholic and I am a catholic, so maybe that's why. I wonder if Moya was thinking of such an associacion when she decided to change Maire into Moya. But maybe if for Protestants St. Mary is not important, Moya found that for her either

I voted for Máire, since that's her "real" name and I have been using it for a longer time so I'm sort of used to write Máire!

I voted Moya, it is unique, catchy, misterious, arty and creates an image all on its own. I think it is a good move as it kind of re-invents her in a fresh new way especially to people who are not familiar with her music etc...

I think the change was a good move. But sure I'm o0nly a bass player

I prefer Máire too, like most of those who've commented in here...

I don't dislike Moya, but as is the case with Enya, I think it makes the name "poorer" - it's not an accurate representation of the pronunciation (I am such a perfectionist when it comes to pronunciations and such things), just the closest thing to it in the English language, which can often be quite far...

However, I do think that both "Moya" and "Enya" are prettier in writing - there's a sort of aesthetic value to the ending -ya, a kind of diminutive-ish value (for me anyway), which is not there in Máire and Eithne...

And about the accent over the a in Máire: I love accents! I think they make letters special - I love having as mother tongue a language that has both æ, ø and å, and I absolutely love the Welsh letter ŵ! - Which is also why I love words such as the Hungarian újjáépítésére or our very own Rååål (earlier spelled Raaaaaal  )... okay, I'm a dork, I admit it...

I can't vote.

This is like the everlasting conversation about which one is more beautiful Enya or Eithne.

So, the same with Moya and Máire. I like both as much.

The real name is always the original but when the other option to vote for is this beautiful as Moya (or Enya), I simply cannot choose.

I voted Máire. It's how I know her. I can deal with Moya. But to me she will always be Máire.

I had always referred to her as Ms. Brennan. Not sure she appreciates that so I went to 'Moya.'

well, Maire sounds better because Moya sounds like mayo and so here we call mayonnaise. :P

Both are beautiful

I think we are all capable of a unique "reinvention" at one time or another in our lives. Both names are beautiful, whatever the reason for the change. :)

i'm afraid i'm quite confused on this matter. i think maire isn't quite as grooovy as moya. it's just got a certain ring to it.... don't ask me why. but for some reson i prefer eithnne to enya... it just seems more enchanting written that way, it makes you think about the name and how it's pronounced... i don't know.

another thing. i read in moya/maire's auotbiography that she would never change her name to moya because maire is what she's always been, it's who she is. why the sudden change of heart? was it presure from the record company or was she tired of getting it pronounced wrong...?

Your question is actually a very good one Nessieq, though it never got answered. I still think of Máire as Máire, because that was what I heard first. Moya looks a bit Spannish to me, but I agree it's easier to type! :D

I vote Moya because when i first saw "Maire" written, i tried to pronounce it in English like a complete eejit.

I'm eager to pick Moya because she appears more of a tennis superstar but then again I like the spelling of Maire better. Her past with Clannad has something to do with that. I hope when Clannad comes back she will change the spelling of her name.

Why doesn't exist option: I don't know?

Really I don't know.
Maire is hard to write (It sounds like Marie),
Moya sounds like polish "moja" - translation: my, mine.
