Passages/quotes you love

I think there used to be a topic like this somewhere, but I can't find it anymore, so I just made a new one =P. I didn't really know whether to put this in the Musicians and Writers part, or here, but I just put it here.

I think the title of the topic speaks for itself; here you can post parts of poems/lyrics(whatever!) you love and would like to share :). Or whole poems, whatever you like.

I guess I'll start:
I saw these really cute poems by Erik van Os I saw on a pillow somewhere and I thought they are soo cute ^___^. I think they belong together:

Antwoord van papa (Answer from daddy)

Ik wilde wel eens horen (I wanted to hear sometime)
waarom ik ben geboren (why I was born)

papa zei (daddy said)
wie, o jij (who, oh you)
ik schudde jou (I shook you)
uit mijn mouw (from out of my sleeve)
toen hadden we jou (then we had you)

papa keek blij (daddy looked happy)
toen hij dat zei (when he said that)

maar ik ben maar (but I just)
naar mama gegaan (went to mama)
papa’s zijn leuk (daddies are nice)
voor grapjes (for jokes)
maar mama’s (but you know where you are with mommies
daar heb je wat aan. )

Antwoord van mama (Answer from mama)

Ik wilde wel eens horen (I wanted to hear sometime)
waarom ik ben geboren (Why I was born)

mama keek blij (mama looked happy)
en zoende mij (and kissed me)
zoende zoende zoende (kissed kissed kissed)
mij en zei (me and said)
na de zoveelste zoen (after the such-and-such kiss)

om de wereld (to do the world a big favour
een groot plezier te doen. )

Aren't they cute?
Sorry for the long post btw ^^.

That it quite cute :)

There are an awful lot of quotes in this world I really like, but one of the best is always..

'I am Woman
I am Invincible
I am TIRED'

usually with a picture of someone fast asleep underneath. Always love it

I love the quote that I have attached to my signature, it says "If You're Happy And You Know It, You Are Probably Anoying Someone Who Isn't." It is so me. :D

A quote, that I like very much, is something what my penfriend Isabella uses as signature: "No way is too long with a friend at your side".

Isn't 'to love yourself the beginning of a life-long love affair' Wilde as well? Always wanted to have the chance to quote that to someone

Ehem, I`ve got an important question regarding this thread...
Are Moya/Clannad lyrics excluded from it? Because it will be some hundred of lines for me...

OK, G, you asked for it!

The "problem" with me and my music and the lyrics is that I always look for my own meanings, my own visions, my own thoughts, feelings or parts of life in the songs I love. Sometimes I cannot really explain my vision of the lyrics, but I still "feel" them in my own special way. And therefore I have all different bits of Clannad`s lyrics that mean something to me, or just move me, or awoke certain feeling within me. So, to begin with...

"The mist has cleared from Muckish hill,
Our parting coming nearer,
The last embrace, the final touch,
With nothing more to say"

Ooooooooo, I like this topic

I like to collect quotes, sayings, lyrics, bits of poems, etc., on lots of my favorite subjects: art, creativity, music, cats, home, travel, etc.

Notice the quotes in my signature, for example :D 8)

Being an artist, I also like these ~

'Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.' - Picasso

'Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.' - Henry Ward Beecher

And my favorite from van Gogh:

'I know nothing with any certainty,
but the sight of stars makes me dream.'
(I used this one previously in my sig 8) )

LOTS more to come. I'm off to search for some humourous bits

I know EXACTLY what you mean Siobhan! And I adore that quote as well....there's something about it that instantly makes me dream.

<mischief managed>
It was a friend of mine years ago that first said, "If you don't know what eschatology is then don't worry; it's not the end of the world". I love that one - from time to time, I get PMs about it from other forums I'm on :)

How about:
"Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain"

But looking around the Internet shows that this one has been used qute a lot....

Or.....

Never argue with an idiot. They'll pull you down to their level then beat you with experience

I think this is one of the most beautiful passages ever written- from Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', said by Prospero the magician.

'Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.'

If I remember correctly, Moya did a song called 'like the baseless fabric', didnt she? Very cool.

That is a beautiful passage indeed ^ ^.
I especially like this: 'We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.'

I like this quote from Wim T. Schippers.

"Niets is zo verhelderend als verwarring"
which means: Nothing is as clearing as confusion.

I like his approach on art :).

Mmmm... Shakespeare... :)

my turn :) I'm not sure how much sense this will make when taken out of context, but still:

"A musical thought is one spoken by a mind that has penetrated into the inmost heart of the thing; detected the inmost mystery of it, namely the melody that lies hidden in it; the inward harmony of coherence which is its soul, whereby it exists, and has a right to be, here in this world. All inmost things, we may say, are melodious; naturally utter themselves in Song."

Thomas Carlyle, On Heroes, Hero-Worship and the Heroic in History, Lecture 3, "The Hero as Poet"
(guess whom he discusses as the epitome of the Poet ;) )
